Parts + Labour quoting is one of the instant quoting features available through FixMyCar and can be a great way of efficiently quoting jobs accurately with other time saving benefits.
In order to work it does require you’re linked to one of our available Part Suppliers, so it does require you have an account with one of these suppliers in order to use it. If you don’t already have an account but are interested just get in touch with the support team as we may be able to check if you can be set up with one through your chosen supplier. Your hourly labour rate is the cost you charge for one hour of labour, this should be excluding VAT as the system calculates this for you automatically. Customers don’t get to see this; they only see the final total. The quoting system itself works by using some simple information provided by you and information from your chosen supplier’s parts database. You simply advise your hourly labour-rate, parts mark up as a percentage and choose your parts preferences and the tech does the rest. Your parts mark-up is the percentage you would add on to the cost price of the part to pass on to the customer. For example; If a part costs £100.00 from the supplier and you add on a 20% mark-up, your parts price to the customer will be £120.00. Customers only get to see the end cost; they don’t see the cost price or mark-up. The system requires you to enter a mark-up so if you wouldn’t usually do this just leave it at 1%.
Parts Preferences – the system allows you to select parts based on either brand or quality. If you have a preferred brand you can go through the available list on most categories and choose the one you wish to use. If you do not have a preferred brand you can filter by quality with either premium for only top-level brands or standard for more affordable brands. Calculate a Parts and Labour total
The system then uses these settings to calculate a parts and labour total. It will pull the price from the supplier’s database based on your settings preferences and add your mark-up to the cost. It calculates labour by multiplying your hourly labour rate by an average installation time for that vehicle and service. It’s important to remember these are average times, so they will never be 100% accurate. Each supplier uses their own system for this, and the labour times come from the supplier not FixMyCar. If you find that certain categories seem consistently low for you, you can always tweak your settings by increasing your labour rate or increasing the mark-up on that specific service to account for a higher or lower labour total.
The system then adds your parts and labour totals adding VAT on for your total price providing a quote for your customer. Like other features on the site these messages can be customised if you wish to provide further information or context.
If one of these quotes is accepted, it also creates a dummy order with the supplier for the parts; saving you the time and effort of having to order them. If you usually receive parts by delivery the supplier should contact you to confirm the order before dispatching the parts.
