Can I change the radius for my job alerts?
Job radius is set by category on the website, this means each category has a maximum limit you will receive job alerts from but most fall in to one of the following areas –
Most standard categories you would expect to a static garage to provide will have a maximum radius of 12.5 miles.
As a rule, any job category specified as mobile i.e., Engine Management Light – Mobile or Mobile Service is likely to have a job radius with a maximum radius limit ranging between 20-30 miles depending on category.
For mobile mechanics this can be a more difficult issue. For that reason, you can alter your radius if you set your garage type to mobile in the “Profile Information” section of your profile settings, there is an option to enter a desired alert radius. Simply type in your maximum radius and save your change, this will update your alert radius from that point onwards.
Job radius is a complex issue, and we appreciate some users may prefer to focus on jobs in their immediate area as convenience and proximity are key factors. However, where reasonable we try to offer users a varied choice of quotes and depending on geographical factors and number of garages in the area this may mean in some examples the closest garages are more than 5 miles.
For this reason, most garage types are unable to change their job radius, but you can filter by proximity in your alert feed and in the “Find Jobs” section.
Mobile Service
If you operate a mobile service, you alter your maximum radius if you are set to ‘Mobile’ in the profile settings page - https://www.whocanfixmycar.com/mechanic/profile?tab=additional
You must have ‘Garage Type’ set to mobile.
You will see an additional field below ‘Garage Type’ to amend your radius. You may need save your changes and refresh the page to see this field.
